Engineer, Junior (Range Safety) #427

RT&T, a joint venture of InDyne, Inc. and Amentum Services, Inc. is the prime contractor to support the Atlantic Range Technical Support Services (ARTSS) for the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) headquartered in Patuxent River, MD, and with locations in Maryland, Virginia, and California.

ARTSS supports Atlantic Test Ranges (ATR) and Atlantic Targets and Marine Operations (ATMO) in research and development, engineering, maintenance, operation, support of facilities, systems, and equipment in order to meet the engineering development and operational testing and fleet training missions for some of the world’s premier systems. Our work with the U.S. Navy keeps the warfighter safe by testing systems before they are used in combat, and we are hiring personnel to support this important mission.

Background Information:

This full-time position within the Range Safety Office of the Atlantic Test Range (ATR) in Patuxent River, Maryland. The mission of the Range Safety Office is to manage test and training event risk and to prevent or reduce to acceptable limits incidents of injury or death to any personnel and/or to damage or loss of test platforms, test systems, and equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties will include range safety planning and guidance, hazard analysis, documentation development, and real-time operational support.

Typical duties include:

  • Reviewing and providing analyses that will enhance the operation of NAVAIR safety systems
  • Developing documentation, used as guidance for Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) and range safety policy and practices
  • Maintaining current and broad knowledge of Operations Risk Management, and specifically risk management of hazardous operations on test ranges
  • Conducting range safety analyses and evaluations, developing safety policies and procedures and granting range safety approval prior to projects being scheduled and tested
  • Reviewing test plans and other external documentation for potential range hazards, accuracy, and operational safety in accordance with current NAVAIR safety instructions and manuals
  • Monitoring live, safety-critical events for tolerance levels, military or other non-participant aviation activity, property or personnel hazards, and hazards, or perceived hazards, to the public within the Patuxent River Operating Area, Chesapeake Bay and Offshore Warning Areas
  • Some overtime and travel may be required

Educational, Experience, and Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline from a school of engineering accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) or in a related discipline such as Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science from an accredited college or university is required
  • Applicant must be a self-starter, flexible, and team-oriented to be able to work smoothly as a member of a technical team
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and successfully pass Drug Screening

Clearance Requirements:

  • Currently hold or be able to obtain and maintain the proper US DoD issued security clearance, which requires US Citizenship. Security clearance eligibility may be discussed during the interview phase.
  • Employment and start date is contingent upon the candidate receiving the required US DoD issued interim security clearance.

Work Conditions:
Conditions will vary. Most work is performed in enclosed buildings, but some outside work may be required. Work will include sitting, standing, walking, lifting and reaching. Applicant should be capable of lifting 50-100 lbs. assisted by other employees. Vision abilities needed to perform this job include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.
